In case you missed it last year, we announced that Advancement Project California is now Catalyst California. This marks a new chapter in our nearly 25-year history and a renewed commitment to advocating for racial justice by building power and transforming public systems.

Despite the new name, our reason for being remains the same. As Catalyst California, we will continue to fight for a world where systems are designed for justice and support equitable access to resources and opportunities for all Californians to thrive. We do this by partnering with communities of color, conducting innovative research, developing policies for actionable change, and shifting money and power back into our communities.

This year, we’re:

  • Addressing the largest disparities in California’s criminal legal system with our new Reimagine Justice & Safety program area by significantly reducing the criminal legal system’s scope and creating new visions for community safety.

  • Supporting power building in Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) communities at the state and local level through direct campaign support, providing data, policy, and budget analysis to partners, and co-creating equitable policy-making and budgeting infrastructure.

  • Continuing to advance innovative approaches to educational equity, political equality, and racial and economic justice.
