Ways to Give

There are many ways you can support our work and make a real impact in the movement for racial justice.

See below for a handy list of donation methods, and please always feel welcome to contact our Development Manager, Jennifer Ho, with any questions about giving: jho@catalystcalifornia.org or (213) 406-9147.

Important note: As of September 2022, Catalyst California (formerly Advancement Project California) and Advancement Project (formerly Advancement Project National Office) are two separate and distinct organizations.

Catalyst California is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; charitable gifts and grants are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. While our organization name has changed, Catalyst California’s EIN (Tax ID) remains the same as it was prior to the name change and Advancement Project separation: 95-4835230.

You can make a convenient and secure online donation here with your credit or debit card. Please consider making it a monthly or quarterly recurring donation to increase your impact and support our work year-round.

You can also pay by card over the phone by calling Development Associate Kirsten Lew at (213) 406-9129.

Checks can be made payable to “Catalyst California” and mailed to:

Catalyst California
c/o Development Department
1910 W. Sunset Blvd. Suite 500
Los Angeles, CA 90026

We gladly accept cash donations by wire transfer. Please contact Development Associate Kirsten Lew at KLew@catalystcalifornia.org for our banking information, which has changed since our rebranding.

Workplace giving is an easy, efficient, and powerful way for you to maximize the impact of your donations by initiating a match from your employer. Different companies match their employees’ gifts at varying ratios, be it 1:1, 2:1, or sometimes even 3:1. That means your $50 gift could end up amounting to up to $200 in support of our racial and economic justice initiatives!

Some employers manually process their match requests internally, while others use specialized online platforms like Benevity and YourCause to manage their workplace giving programs .You can use the embedded search tool below to instantly find whether your employer has a workplace giving program in place, and if so, how it works

Don’t see your employer in the search results? Consider petitioning your HR department to implement a workplace giving program!

Please note: Some platforms are taking longer than others to reflect our new name. When designating us as the organization you would like to support, please make your selection based on our EIN: 95-4835230. Even if the organization name still appears as “Advancement Project”, so long as you select our EIN, rest assured your gift will make its way to us.

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a type of giving program that allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to easily support your favorite charities.

How does it work?

  • Establish your DAF by making an irrevocable, tax-deductible donation to a public charity that sponsors a DAF program (e.g., Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Liberty Hill Foundation, etc.)
  • Advise the investment allocation of the donated assets (any investment growth is tax-free)
  • Recommend grants to qualified public charities of your choice

Already have a DAF? Work with your fund administrator Our EIN is 95-4835230.

Donating long-term appreciating stocks, bonds, and mutual funds is easier than you might expect and could significantly increase your gift and tax deduction.

To get started, please notify us of your intention to donate stock by completing this form and submitting it to Jennifer Ho at JHo@catalystcalifornia.org. Jennifer will then provide our stock transfer and broker information to be shared with your broker. Please ask your broker to include your name with the transfer.

Once the transfer is complete, Catalyst California will sell the stock and send a donor tax receipt using the contact information you provide in your submitted form.

Note to existing stock donors: Our broker information remains the same as it was prior to our name change.

You can extend your support and make a lasting impact in the lives of California’s low-income communities of color by making a gift of cash or other property by will. You’ll establish a legacy of racial justice advocacy in your family, and since bequests are exempt from federal estate taxes, the estate tax charitable deduction may offset or eliminate estate taxes, resulting in a larger inheritance for your heirs.

You should consult with your attorney if you are interested in including Catalyst California in your estate plans, but below is some sample language to help you and your attorney get started:

“I give and bequeath the sum of ___________ dollars {OR _____ percent of my estate OR the remainder of my estate} to Catalyst’s California office, a nonprofit corporation located at 1910 West Sunset Boulevard, Suite 500, Los Angeles, CA 90026, Federal Tax ID 95-4835230, for the organization’s general use.”

If you have included a bequest for Catalyst California in your estate plans, please let us know at (213) 406-9147 or jho@catalystcalifornia.org so we can thank you for your generosity.
