Protecting children and students

Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and become a full participant in our democracy and economy. Strong childcare programs and public schools are essential for California to thrive. Yet right-wing, authoritarian forces attack our institutions, freeze funding without legal authority, weaponize immigration enforcement in childcare and school settings, and exclude certain children from our schools. Working closely with community leaders and local and state officials, our Education Protection team advances a vision of a racially just Birth-to-12th-grade system. We hold the line on our most recent policy victories and fight the federal government’s attempts to destroy what we have built through data, policy advocacy, and education system partnership–so we can continue to make progress on a public education system that helps children to thrive.
